Antique Washstand Makeover

Happy New Year! I hope your reading of this post finds you off to a good start in 2024! I’m so excited for this year— for a number of reasons. My husband and I are planning for our next chapter (which if everything aligns will involve a #simpleliving build and move), our son is advancing with Farming on our farm, our daughter is in her 3rd year of Nursing, I’m turning 50 this year 🤯, and we continue to have so many blessings. AND I have so many pieces I want to paint in 2024— including this adorable antique washstand that I picked up years ago!

Versatile, moderately-sized, charming and timeless— are just a few words that come to my mind with antique washstands. I’ve had this one tucked away for quite some time. Seems it was waiting ever-so-patiently for the most fitting colours for its’ next chapter. Country Chic Paint’s recent colour launch included what I felt were the most perfect complimentary colours for my reincarnation. Neverland— an irresistible deep olive green, and Ancient Amber— a mesmerizing burnt teracotta are hands-down 2 colour tones that I have been aching for! And here they now are, complimenting each other with charm! Bedside Table? Hallway Accent? Lavatory Cupboard? Entryway Statement? Where do YOU see this in your home this new year?

With all my heart and hands

This antique washstand reminded me of why furniture refinishing feels so rewarding: the chance to reimagine a piece’s potential, the thoughtful process of bringing it back to life, and the quiet joy of seeing it transformed. With Country Chic Paint’s Neverland and Ancient Amber, this washstand found its perfect colors—deep, earthy tones that highlight its timeless charm while giving it a fresh perspective.

The process wasn’t without its challenges, but taking the time to let it unfold made all the difference. Refinishing isn’t about chasing perfection; it’s about honoring the character that’s already there while adding your own creative touch. Watching this piece evolve reminded me of the beauty that comes with patience and intention.

Now, this washstand is ready for its next chapter, whether it finds a home as a bedside table, hallway accent, or entryway statement. Each brushstroke and every decision brought it one step closer to where it belongs. Do you have a piece waiting for a little care and imagination? Sometimes, all it takes is the right moment to see its potential.
